ADSM (AquaFund) and Guy’s and St Thomas NHS are named Winners in NHS Sustainability Awards

Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Trust’s commitment to sustaining its water supplies and reducing consumption has been commended by a WIN last night in the ‘Water’ category at the NHS Sustainability Awards 2015. The prestigious black-tie event in London saw sustainability leaders from across the NHS gather to celebrate those who have strived to implement active sustainable change, whilst demonstrating engagement with staff and the public.

The comprehensive water project, AquaFund, which was delivered in partnership with ADSM, has saved Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS 20% of its water consumption, a value of over £120k per annum each year – important savings for the Trust which can be invested elsewhere.

The Trust was awarded the full grant from AquaFund, which covered everything necessary to make their water efficiencies, including; consultancy services, site audits and state-of-the-art water saving technologies, together with water data and tariff analysis, bill validation services and on-going monitoring.

The judges particularly liked fact that that the project not only delivers important financial savings and helps to sustain water supplies in the UK, but also has a direct impact on helping those in water poverty internationally. The AquaFund project donates a percentage of its revenue each year on the Trust’s behalf to charity WaterAid – meaning the Trust has helped assist over 85,000 people in Tanzania gain access to safe water and sanitation in 2013/14.

In 2015/16 the project will continue to deliver positive outcomes for the Trust whilst helping to conserve a scarce resource for the future.
